Rivers Of Blood

The rerun Assembly elections in Rivers State is turning out to be a battle field as lives and properties have been lost. The bloodbath is so alarming that some political analysts have called for a state of emergency to be declared in the state to avert further bloodshed. The current killings going on in the state can be blamed squarely on the Apex Court judgement on the gubernatorial elections. In an election described as a sham by many, in which many lives were lost, the Supreme Court still put a stamp of approval on the elections. In other words, you can kill, maim and destroy properties as long as you achieve your aim, a classic case of the end justifies the means.

The gladiators in the state were buoyed by the Supreme Court judgement and have embarked upon another killing spree to achieve their aim in the rerun elections of the state and federal Houses of Assembly. Most Nigerians have expressed concern with Governor Weysom Wike’s utterance which they see as fuelling and endorsement of the killings. The murder of a youth corp member was the height of the carnage in Rivers. He lost his life in service to his fatherland. Imagine, if the corp member was killed in the north, political jobbers, regional champions would have been beating drums of war, so far they have all turned deaf and dumb.
