he eighth Senate is fast gaining notoriety for always being in the
news for the wrong reasons. Since the inauguration of the Senate where
the red chamber was rocked by leadership tussle, the Saraki- led Senate
has not passed a week without one scandal or the other.
From the allegations of missing budget, to padded budget; Code of
Conduct Tribunal trial of the Senate President; plans to gag the social
media; drama during the ministerial screening to the disparaging
comments made by Senator Dino Melaye on Governor Adams Oshiomhole, it
has been a house of comedy.
In the past few weeks, Senate Leader, Ali Ndume has been in hot water
for saying Nigerian men should marry more than one wife starting with
the senate president, guess Mrs Saraki will not be welcoming Senator
Ndume to her house anytime soon. As the dust is yet to settle on Ndume’s
comment, a bill on gender parity which aims to end violence and
discrimination against women was thrown out putting the Senate once
again in the wrong side of the public. I can bet my money that in the
coming days the Senate will be in the news for another scandal. At this
rate by the end of the eighth Senate, Nigerians may be happy to see
them leave.
